Lindsey Rubinstein (she/her) founded Expand Law PLLC to deepen her work representing creatives, small businesses, and queer people and families.

Her passion for this work comes from her belief that with the peace of mind that comes from trustworthy legal counsel, her clients are empowered to pursue the life and work that creates a more beautiful, just, and expansive world.

Expand Law provides exceptional and accessible representation to creatives and creative families.

With creatives, we work with all manner of artists in drafting, negotiating, and explaining the deals they are getting into. This may include working with artists to discuss their primary priorities for their work, discussing copyright issues, identifying potential legal gray areas and advising artists on how those might be avoided or defended, negotiating with venues, licensers, or publishers about the manner of the production of the work, or helping artists in collaboration work together to formulate a deal that represents everyone’s interests.

With creative families, we work with families all across New York State, with a particular focus on queer and/or non-monogamous families, on issues related to all stages of the “life cycle” of the family. Whether it be prenuptial or postnuptial agreements, families looking to welcome a child through donor agreements, surrogacy, or other assisted reproductive technology (ART), an interest in exploring parentage rights through judgment of parentage or second-parent adoption, or a desire to figure out wills or estate matters, Expand Law ensures that your specific needs and priorities are considered and provided for every step of the way. Lindsey Rubinstein is also a divorce mediator and provides a safe, confidential, compassionate, and cost-effective space for families to discuss and decide what their lives will look like after restructuring, separation or divorce.

Lindsey founded Expand Law because she truly believes in helping people who are doing the work of envisioning a life outside of the conventions that are set up for us. An artist herself and a strong supporter of the arts with a background as a fierce litigator, Lindsey works as a liaison between the legal landscape and the people it does not always consider. When you work with Expand Law, you can be sure that you are working with an attorney who understands your values. Lindsey offers truly personal connections, expert legal advice, and time for you to understand your legal situation so you can make the best decision possible for you. We represent your interests so you can continue doing the work that matters.

Lindsey is additionally dedicated to keeping her fees accessible, charging well below market rates in NYC for comparable services.
